Pressure Points, Vital Points, Kyusho... however you want to refer to them, have always been a spark of controversy within the martial arts. At first they were promoted as some secret that was held back from those who were not worthy, but after 30 some years the secret is out. Some say they don't work, some say they don't exist, some are so disillusioned by their instructors that they believe pressure points are all you need. In reality kyusho falls somewhere in between.
Unfortunately some of the leaders of the pressure point movement have let their egos get the best of them. And this has turned a lot of people off. No matter what your experiences with them have been or what your preconceived beliefs are, pressure points do have valid place in the martial arts. It’s the environment and the method they are taught in that counts.
This is where the Kyusho-Jitsu Workshop comes in. These workshops, taught by Sensei Handwerker, are designed for every martial artist. It doesn't matter what rank, style, or school you come from. The only thing that matters is that you are open to learning. Provided is a non-political environment which is non-style specific; and without the limitations of any specific curriculum or membership requirements. The idea is to allow students of any rank or style to attend, learn, and play.
- All styles and ranks welcome
- Outside organizations welcome
- Open minds expected
- No yearly membership fees required
- No pressure on testing
We are associated with Kyusho.Expert™ and the Kyusho Institute™, both international pressure point organizations lead by Grandmaster Mark Kline. For those who want to progress along a kyusho curriculum, this is something that we can provide, but it is not required.
The workshops are taught by 5th Degree Black Belt, Sensei Mish Handwerker, who has been studying pressure points for over 20 years, and teaches them extensively in his regular curriculum. Handwerker Martial Arts is a Kyusho Institute™ recognized school. These workshops are themed to subjects based on who shows up. Theses subjects may cover kata breakdown, locking, weapon disarming, knockouts, drills, etc. Think of each class as a mini seminar.
The next workshop will be held at Open Hand Kempo in Hillsboro, Oregon...
- March 18th - Hillsboro (3:30p-5:00p)
